Known in Mandarin as hong mu, the wood is sourced from tropical hardwood forests, primarily in regions spanning Vietnam, Cambodia, and southern Yunnan province. Buddhist monastic craftsmen have worked rosewood into prayer beads for over a thousand years, valuing the wood for its grain density, natural oil content, and the slow, steady patina it develops with daily wear. Each bead is hand-turned and polished to reveal the full depth of its color.

The bracelet is strung on elastic cord, with beads measuring approximately 8mm in diameter. A standard strand holds 18 to 21 beads and sits close to the wrist without constriction. Rosewood at this grade is notably dense, giving the bracelet a presence that distinguishes it from lighter wooden pieces. The surface is lightly oiled after turning, a finish that preserves the grain without lacquer or synthetic coating. Over months of wear, the wood absorbs the skin’s natural oils and deepens in color.
