The white jade mala necklace arrives cool and deliberate in the hand, its 108 beads hand-smoothed into a pale, near-translucent ivory. Nephrite carries real density: you feel it the moment you close your fingers around the strand.

Nephrite jade has been carved and worn in China for more than seven thousand years, its value rooted in a tradition of material connoisseurship as much as rarity. The finest grades are sourced from the mountain rivers of Xinjiang and Qinghai, assessed by density, translucency, and surface smoothness. The mala form belongs to Tibetan and Buddhist counting traditions: the 108-bead sequence tied to a cosmological framework consistent across lineages for over a millennium.

Each of the 108 beads is hand-drilled to 8mm diameter and strung on knotted silk cord, with a single 10mm guru bead marking the count’s completion. The strand measures approximately 90cm in total length and sits at mid-chest when worn. Surface finish is matte-polished: smooth enough to move silently through the fingers, without the gloss that would hide the stone’s natural veining and color variation. Total weight is approximately 65 grams. The hand-knotted cotton tassel is replaceable.
