Tiger’s eye buddhist mala beads arrive warm in the hand, banded in amber and honey, each catching light with a slow, living shift. The stone is dense, smooth-polished, present in a way that synthetic materials are not.

Tiger’s eye belongs to the quartz family, found primarily in South Africa with additional deposits in India and Southeast Asia. Its use in Buddhist contemplative practice traces through Himalayan and Southeast Asian traditions, where counted beads have marked recitation and breath for centuries. The stone’s chatoyancy, a fine optical shimmer produced by parallel fibrous inclusions, made it valued long before gemological vocabulary existed for it. Artisans in Nepal select each bead by hand for consistent banding before knotting begins.

This mala is strung on hand-knotted silk cord with 108 beads, each measuring 8mm in diameter, plus a guru bead and tassel at the marker position. Total necklace length when worn is approximately 90cm. Each bead is tumble-polished to bring out full chatoyancy without artificial coating or dye. The hand-knotting between each bead prevents friction wear and allows for individual tactile counting. Total assembled weight sits near 70g, giving the mala a substantive, settled feel in the hand.
