Description
Raw oud wood sticks Grade 3 are cut from natural Aquilaria agarwood sourced from the Nha Trang region of southern Vietnam, one of the most established origins for Vietnamese oud in the global incense trade. Each stick measures approximately 10cm in length and 4 to 5mm in diameter. The wood is unprocessed and contains no binders, synthetic fragrances, or additives of any kind. What you are burning is the raw agarwood itself, with all its natural resin intact.
The sticks are offered in bundles at net weights of 5g, 10g, and 20g. Each stick burns for 45 to 60 minutes under standard conditions, with slower burn times when air circulation is lower. Grade 3 sits in the accessible range of the agarwood grading scale, meaning the resin content is present and produces a genuine oud profile without the higher price point associated with Grades 4 through 6. The earthy, balsamic character of Vietnamese agarwood is distinct from the sweeter Southeast Asian varieties and the more medicinal Indian oud.
Raw oud wood sticks can be burned in a traditional incense burner or censer, placed directly on a charcoal disc, or held over a flame briefly to begin combustion and then allowed to smolder. The smoke is heavier and more complex than processed incense sticks and fills a room gradually over the burn time. Ventilation is recommended for smaller spaces, as the smoke is concentrated rather than diffuse.
Agarwood forms when Aquilaria trees respond to fungal infection by producing a dense, resin-saturated heartwood. The accumulation of this resin, called oud or aloeswood, is what gives the material its characteristic scent and makes it one of the most expensive natural aromatics in the world. Vietnamese agarwood from the Nha Trang region has been traded regionally for centuries and reached prominence in the Gulf market during the 20th century.
The right quantity to purchase depends on how frequently you burn oud. The 5g bundle is a practical starting point for exploring the scent profile before committing to larger quantities. The 10g and 20g options offer better value for regular use. Because the wood is raw and unprocessed, it stores well in a sealed container away from humidity and retains its aromatic quality for extended periods.
