Description
The Om mantra and lotus flower pendant in pure silver 990 is an object of quiet precision. Cast in 990 parts per thousand pure silver, a higher purity than standard sterling, it carries the Om Mani Padme Hum mantra in Tibetan script and a lotus in relief on a disc of approximately 2.5 centimetres diameter, made to be worn close to the body.
Cast in 990/1000 pure silver, a higher purity than standard S925 sterling, this pendant carries a brighter, whiter surface and a subtle weight that registers with quiet authority. The Om symbol is engraved at the center, surrounded by the full Om Mani Padme Hum mantra in Tibetan script, with a lotus in relief at the base. Polished highlights and matte engraved channels create a surface that reads clearly in natural light. An integrated bail at the top accepts any chain or cord. The pendant measures approximately 9 by 16.5 millimetres and weighs 7.6 grams. A cord necklace is included.
Wear this pendant on the included cord or substitute a fine silver or gold chain. The disc size and weight suit both daily wear and contemplative use: small enough to remain unobtrusive, substantial enough to feel present against the skin. In Tibetan Buddhist practice, mantras are worn as a continuous form of invocation, the text kept in physical proximity as a reminder of its meaning.
Om Mani Padme Hum is the national mantra of Tibet and the central invocation of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. In Tibetan Buddhist teaching, these six syllables are understood to contain the complete teaching of the Buddha, a compression carried by monks, pilgrims, and lay practitioners for centuries. The lotus, rising uncompromised through dark water to bloom at the surface, has accompanied this mantra across temple walls, prayer flags, and sacred objects throughout the Himalayan tradition as the symbol of the possibility of illumination.
What is the difference between 990 pure silver and 925 sterling silver? Pure silver at 990/1000 contains more silver and less copper than sterling silver at 925/1000. The result is a whiter, brighter surface that does not tarnish as readily as sterling, though it is slightly softer. For a pendant worn rather than used as a functional object, 990 pure silver offers a finer appearance and greater longevity of surface finish.
