Description
Something shifts when a person holds this in their palm: a small, solid weight that asks, by its form alone, to be turned.
The prayer wheel is one of the most enduring forms of Tibetan Buddhist devotional practice. Developed across the Himalayan plateau, the miniature wheel carries within it a written mantra, traditionally Om Mani Padme Hum, the six-syllable invocation associated with Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion. Each full rotation is considered equivalent to reciting the mantra once aloud. The tradition of miniature prayer wheel pendants has been maintained by silver artisans in Lhasa for several centuries, passed between workshops through apprenticeship.
This pendant is hand-forged by a Tibetan artisan from S925 sterling silver, the silver itself sourced from Lhasa. The wheel is functional: the body opens to reveal a small scroll bearing the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum, placed inside during crafting. The outer surface is engraved with the OM syllable and lotus flower motifs. The pendant rotates on its central axis, as traditional prayer wheels do, and hangs from a bail suited to chain or cord.
The pendant is made from S925 sterling silver. Exact dimensions and weight are not specified on the product listing. It contains an internal mantra scroll. Handcrafted in Lhasa, Tibet, China.
The scroll placed at crafting can receive an additional personal written intention before the wheel is closed. This pendant is compatible with any standard chain or cord attachment.
