Mystica Ocean Reef Pendant – Wood & Resin Art

Description

The light that falls through shallow water above a reef — diffused, shifting, simultaneously blue and green — is the visual experience this pendant attempts to hold in material form.

Resin casting developed as an artisan medium across the latter twentieth century, gaining traction in jewelry production as a technique for suspending and layering color in three dimensions within a single object. The Mystica collection applies this approach alongside natural wood, using the visual world of the reef and open water as its organizing color reference.

The pendant is made from natural wood and pigmented resin, worked together by hand. The resin is built up in poured layers, each setting at a different depth and carrying its own tonal variation: deep blue, celadon green, and passages of iridescent brightness that catch and shift in changing light. The structure of the wood and the translucency of the resin together produce a surface that reads differently depending on how it is held.

Dimensions vary between individual pieces, as each is formed and finished by hand without standardization. The materials are natural wood and cast resin. To care for the piece: avoid prolonged immersion in water and limit sustained direct sunlight exposure, which can alter the resin’s pigmentation over time. A cord or chain is sold separately.
