A necklace that moves through pink, pale green, deep black, and translucent gray with each shift of the light, each bead carrying a color that exists nowhere else in exactly that shade or combination.
Tourmaline is one of the most compositionally variable minerals in common use, with color determined entirely by trace elements present during crystal formation: iron and titanium produce blues and greens, manganese produces pinks and reds, and the simultaneous presence of multiple elements creates bi-color or polychrome stones. In Tibetan and Indian Buddhist practice, the 108-bead mala corresponds to the 108 human afflictions referenced in classical texts, and a full counting cycle represents a complete passage through each one.
This mala strings 108 natural tourmaline beads on a knotted cord, each bead chosen for its individual color so that the completed necklace presents a gradual, unrepeatable spectrum. The beads are polished to bring out the natural transparency and depth of the stone. A guru bead marks the beginning and end of each counting cycle.
The mala is composed of 108 natural tourmaline beads on a knotted cord. Bead diameter and total necklace length vary by piece; exact dimensions are available on request. Tourmaline registers between 7 and 7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale and is suitable for regular wear; store separately to avoid surface scratching.
Because tourmaline color is determined by mineral composition rather than treatment or dye, no two beads in this mala are identical, and no two malas in this style will be the same.
