Red mahogany Qi gong health balls carry a specific warmth before you begin: dense, faintly fragrant, the grain tight from decades of slow tropical growth. In the palm they have the particular weight of quality hardwood, neither hollow nor uniform.

Red mahogany, known in Southeast Asia as Shorea or Meranti, is a closed-grain hardwood valued for density, resistance to splitting, and the faint natural resin that gives the wood its warmth. In traditional Chinese practice, Qi Gong hand balls have been used for centuries as a tactile exercise form: two spheres rotated continuously in one hand, developing dexterity and grip strength across generations. The wooden health ball predates the common chrome-steel variety by several centuries, wood being the original and more forgiving material.

Available in two sizes: 45mm for smaller hands or those new to the practice, and 55mm for users seeking more rotational resistance. Each sphere is turned from a single piece of red mahogany and sanded to a finish that develops further with use. Grain runs the full depth of the sphere, not a veneer. No lacquer applied: the natural resin polishes under the hand. Weight per sphere approximately 60g at 45mm, 110g at 55mm. Sold as a pair in a fitted storage pouch.
