Black agate has been worked into prayer objects across India, Tibet, and Central Asia for over two thousand years. In the Tibetan and Hindu mala tradition, stones chosen for visual weight and durability were preferred for daily counting practice. Agate, a form of chalcedony, forms in volcanic rock and is found across South and Central Asia. Artisans in India’s Jaipur gemstone district and Nepal’s bead workshops shape and polish each stone by hand before threading, continuing a lapidary lineage measured in generations.

Beads are available in 6mm, 8mm, or 10mm diameter. Each is polished to a high, even sheen, revealing agate’s characteristic banding: fine parallel lines visible at certain angles, giving each bead subtle individuality within the consistent black. The strand is hand-knotted between each bead, adding durability and a tactile interval with each rotation. Total bracelet circumference is approximately 18 to 19cm. Weight ranges from 14g to 25g depending on bead size.
