The dreamcatcher originates as a spiritual protective object in Ojibwe (Anishinaabe) tradition, where woven hoops were suspended near sleeping areas to filter nocturnal disturbance. The form spread through many Native American communities over the twentieth century and was subsequently adopted in artisanal and bohemian craft traditions worldwide, often reproduced using locally available natural materials and interpreted through the aesthetic conventions of different maker communities.
