Description

Triple tiger eye natural stone comes in three distinct expressions: hawk’s eye, red iron-oxidized, and the amber yellow carried through Buddhist practice for centuries. This mala holds all three, counted across 108 beads on a single strand.

Tiger eye forms in quartz-rich geological zones through a process called pseudomorphism, where crocidolite fibres are replaced by silica. The blue variety, hawk’s eye, retains traces of the original iron-blue fibre before oxidation is complete. As oxidation advances, the stone shifts to red. The fully oxidized yellow form became a recurrent material in Buddhist mala-making across Nepal, Tibet, and South India, where its chatoyant shimmer was a mark of quality in the selection of ritual beads.

The mala comprises 108 beads, each 6mm in diameter, distributed across the three tiger eye varieties. Each bead is individually polished to bring out the chatoyant band, the optical effect produced by the parallel fibre structure within the stone. The full strand measures approximately 50cm, strung on a knotted cord with a guru bead and tassel at the closure. Approximate weight is 80 to 90 grams. Color variation across the three varieties creates a visible alternation along the strand.

Approximate weight: 80 to 90g. Construction: individually polished, cord-strung with guru bead and tassel. Origin: South and East Asia.

The chatoyant band holds under all light. Three stones, one strand, one count. This mala carries a complete mineral lineage.
