Triple Boxwood Amitabha Set Pure Land Peace

Description

Three small wooden figures arranged on a surface carry the particular stillness of hand-carved objects, each one subtly different from the others, the grain of the wood running in a slightly different direction through each form.

Amitabha, the Buddha of Infinite Light, is the central figure of Pure Land Buddhism, one of the most widely practiced traditions in East Asia, with deep roots in China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. Domestic altar arrangements featuring multiple Buddha figures have a long history in these traditions, and sets of three carry significance in Buddhist cosmology, including associations with the three bodies of the Buddha (trikaya) and the three jewels of the dharma.

This boxed set contains three Amitabha Buddha statuettes carved from boxwood. Each figure is depicted seated in meditation, hands folded in dhyana mudra, with robes and facial features worked in the established carving style. Small natural variations in grain and carving give each of the three figures its own character. The set arrives in a box suited to gifting.

The set contains three carved boxwood statuettes. Individual figure dimensions vary; exact measurements are available on request. Boxwood should be kept away from direct heat and sustained humidity to prevent the wood from splitting over time.

The three figures can be arranged as a triptych or placed individually in separate spaces. Each statuette is produced in established Chinese woodcarving traditions.
