Description

Tibetan prayer wheel pendant work in pure 999 silver carries the accumulated weight of a tradition measured not in years but in rotations. Each turn of the cylinder is an act of attention, made permanent in metal worn against the chest.

The mani wheel tradition originates in eighth-century Tibet, where the practice of encasing sacred texts inside a rotating cylinder was first established. Spinning the wheel releases the mantras held within, equivalent to reciting them aloud. Silversmiths in Kathmandu’s Thamel district and in the Tibetan communities of Dharamsala have produced prayer wheel pendants for over three centuries, using repousse and engraving techniques to render the Om Mani Padme Hum mantra on the cylinder surface.

This pendant is forged in pure 999 silver, softer and more luminous than sterling. The cylindrical prayer wheel measures approximately 2 cm in height and 1 cm in diameter, rotating freely on a central axis. Weight approximately 5 to 7 grams. Om Mani Padme Hum is engraved around the exterior in classical Tibetan script. The bail accommodates cord or chain up to 2.5 mm. Interior holds a rolled prayer scroll, traditional to the form. Finish is high polish, softening with daily wear.
