Description
A taotie ring in silver and copper arrives as a compact, substantial object. The engraved face sits flush against the band, its lines precise and unhurried, the contrast between silver and copper visible at the rim.
The Taotie is among the oldest motifs in Chinese visual culture, first appearing on ritual bronze vessels of the Shang dynasty, roughly 1600 BCE. A composite creature combining features of the dragon, tiger, and ox, it was cast onto vessels used in ancestral ceremonies. This ring carries that lineage into wearable form. Handcrafted in China, it is engraved by hand onto a band of 925 sterling silver with a copper inlay, following the tradition of bimetallic craft that has defined Chinese metalwork for millennia.
The band is cast in 925 sterling silver, hallmarked and durable. A copper inlay runs along the outer rim, creating a warm contrast against the silver’s cooler tone. The Taotie face is engraved into the upper face of the ring by hand, the lines cut with precision and depth. The band width sits at approximately 6mm, with a flat profile that wears close to the finger. Weight varies by size but registers as a deliberate, solid presence. Available in standard ring sizes.
