Description
Bamboo incense box and burner, cut and fitted from a single material: the form is spare, the function complete. The lid lifts to reveal stored sticks; the burner slot holds each one upright while ash falls cleanly within the chamber.
Bamboo has been cultivated and worked across East and Southeast Asia for millennia. In China and Vietnam, artisans have long refined techniques for splitting, curing, and joining bamboo into objects that balance structural precision with natural beauty. This piece originates from workshops in southern China where bamboo craft remains a living tradition. The material is harvested at peak fiber density, cured to prevent cracking, and finished to a surface that is smooth, slightly warm to the touch, and honest in its grain.
The box and burner share a single compact form: approximately 25 cm long, 5 cm wide, and 4 cm tall. The hinged lid opens to a storage channel for standard incense sticks. The burner aperture at one end positions each stick at a fixed angle, ash falling into the lower chamber rather than onto surrounding surfaces. Bamboo walls 4 to 5 mm thick keep the outer surface cool during use. No metal fittings. Joinery is bamboo on bamboo throughout.
Bamboo incense box and burner, dual-purpose. Material: natural bamboo, no lacquer. Dimensions: approximately 25 cm x 5 cm x 4 cm. Origin: China. Stores and burns standard incense sticks. Ash contained within the lower chamber. No metal components.
The form is complete. The ash stays contained. This is the tool the ritual requires.
