Description
The artisan 925 silver feather ring is made by a single hand from sterling silver sheet: the feather motif is not cast from a mold but pressed and shaped individually, each piece retaining the slight variation of the hand that formed it. It is worn directly against skin and adjusts to fit without tools.
The ring is formed from 925 sterling silver, ninety-two and a half percent pure silver, the standard mark of quality handwork across Southeast Asia and the Himalayan foothills. The feather sits at the top of the band, rising to approximately 25 millimeters from base to tip. Shallow ridges pressed into the vane catch light as the hand moves, shifting the appearance of the feather without additional surface treatment. The band is open at the back with two plain terminals that allow sizing from approximately US 5 to US 9. Weight is 4 to 5 grams. The surface is matte-finished, reducing glare and preserving the texture of the handwork rather than polishing it away.
The ring adjusts by pressing the open terminals gently together or apart, allowing the wearer to size it to any finger without tools or a jeweler. The open band construction is standard to artisan silver rings from this tradition. Worn on the index or middle finger, the feather sits prominently; worn on the ring or little finger, it reads as a more understated piece. The matte finish handles daily wear without the micro-scratching visible on polished silver.
Silver feather work in the Himalayan foothills and across Southeast Asia developed over centuries in close relation to Buddhist and animist traditions that understand the feather as a sign of passage, lightness, and witness between worlds. The 925 sterling standard has been the mark of quality artisan silver across the region for generations. This ring is made by hand by artisans working in Vietnam, where silverwork in the feather and botanical motif tradition has been practiced for centuries in workshop clusters in Hanoi and the northern highlands.
Will the matte silver tarnish over time? Sterling silver tarnishes through oxidation in normal air. The matte finish on this ring makes tarnish less immediately visible than on a polished piece, but it will develop over months of wear. A soft silver polishing cloth will restore the surface. Daily wear actually slows tarnishing on the contact areas; the reverse of the band tarnishes faster than the feather face.
