Description

The Amitabha Buddha statue in brass is a devotional figure depicting the Buddha of Boundless Light in the dhyana mudra, hands resting in the lap with palms upward in the posture of meditative absorption. Cast by artisans working in a continuous lineage of lost-wax technique, and available in multiple sizes, this is an altar piece built for longevity.

The statue is produced by lost-wax casting in a brass alloy of copper and zinc, chosen for its structural stability, fine-detail retention, and its capacity to develop a warm surface patina over years of handling. Each figure is cast in a single pour to eliminate seams at structurally vulnerable points. The finish is hand-worked: recessed areas receive a darkening treatment to emphasize the modeled folds of the robe, while the face, hands, and lotus throne are brought to a warm satin polish. The medium piece weighs approximately 800 grams. Multiple sizes are available, with a full size guide provided.

Place the statue on an altar, a shelf at or above eye level, or a dedicated surface in a practice space. Facing east or west is conventional in Pure Land Buddhist practice, though placement according to the room’s geometry is equally valid. Clean the surface occasionally with a dry or very lightly dampened cloth. No special treatment is required to maintain the finish; brass is stable at room temperature and will develop its own patina naturally over time.

Amitabha, known in Chinese as Amituofo and in Tibetan as Öpagme, presides at the center of the Pure Land tradition and is among the most widely venerated figures in Mahayana Buddhism across China, Tibet, and Nepal. The artisans producing this piece work within a tradition of lost-wax casting refined over centuries in the Kathmandu Valley and the foundries of Hebei Province, where metal craft guilds have operated in continuity since at least the Song dynasty.

What size Amitabha statue is right for a home altar? The most common choice for a domestic altar is a medium figure between 20 and 30 cm, which provides visual presence without overwhelming a standard shelf or console. Artisan d’Asie provides a size guide with photographs to show each figure at scale before purchase.
