Lotus Six-Character Mantra Ring in 999 Fine Silver

Description

Silver shaped by a hand tool rather than a press holds a slight irregularity in each line, visible when the light catches the engraved surface. The lotus and the six-character mantra on this band belong to the same tradition: both are ways of holding something complete in a small form.

The lotus flower is among the most enduring emblems in Buddhist and Hindu iconography, representing the capacity for awareness to arise within ordinary, often difficult, conditions. The image derives from the botanical fact that the lotus takes root in muddy water yet rises and blooms above it, untouched by what it grew from. The mantra Om Mani Padme Hum — the six-character mantra, meaning roughly the jewel in the lotus — is the most widely recited mantra in Tibetan Buddhism, associated with Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion, and has been regarded as the national mantra of Tibet for centuries.

This ring is cast in 999 fine silver — the highest purity grade used in jewellery, purer than 925 sterling — and engraved by hand with a lotus flower in relief on the outer band. The Heart Sutra and mantra script run around the exterior surface. The ring is adjustable, allowing it to fit any finger without resizing.
