Description
The cream-beige stripe of the ground fabric — visible through the printed florals — gives this fan the quality of aged textile: not worn, but lived-in, the way colour behaves after years behind glass in a dealer’s cabinet. The peonies are printed in deep olive-green and violet-mauve, tones that would be unusual in a contemporary Western floral context but that appear repeatedly in antique Chinese embroidered panels and Qing period silk fans.
