Description
Hot pink peonies open across a soft blush ground, their petals layered in that loose, generous way that has made the mudan — the Chinese peony — the defining motif of ceremonial silk for centuries. Purple asters and mauve buds scatter between them, giving the composition depth and movement against the pale rose fabric.
The fan is structured on twenty bamboo ribs, each one pierced by hand with a repeating floral pattern at the base — a detail that softens the transition between the worked timber and the printed silk and signals the level of finish typical of workshop-made fans from the Zhejiang and Hunan traditions.
