Description
Against a ground of deep black silk, crimson and rose peonies are printed at full intensity — the contrast between the dark ground and saturated florals producing the kind of visual weight usually associated with lacquerwork or cloisonné rather than textile. White cherry blossoms scatter across the upper silk, and a border of purple-lavender small flowers runs along the edges, their cooler tone keeping the crimson from reading as aggressive.
