Description
Cherry blossoms — sakura in Japanese, yinghua in Chinese — appear here in white and pale lavender against a ground of saturated fuchsia, their five-petaled silhouettes scattered across the full span of the fan. A small butterfly rests near the top edge of the silk, a detail that recurs in workshop fans from the Jiangnan region where it is considered an auspicious pairing with blossoms.
The scalloped edge of the silk — a hand-finished detail on the outer arc of the fan — adds tactile texture to a piece that is already visually strong. Opened, it creates an immediate focal point; folded, it fits a jacket pocket or clutch bag.
