Description
Royal blue — the colour of the robes of the First Rank in the imperial court — gives this fan its authority. Against it, white and rose peonies open in full bloom, their scale large enough to read from across a room. Cherry blossom sprigs scatter toward the upper arc, their smaller forms drawing the eye out across the full span of the silk and into the scalloped border edge.
The saturation of the blue means this fan works where other floral textiles would disappear: dark walls, deep wood surfaces, dramatic flat-lay compositions. It is also one of the most requested colour combinations in Chinese wedding décor, where blue and white carries associations with good fortune and longevity.
