Description
Where the Blue Garden fan concentrates its peonies in a dense cluster, this version distributes its florals more loosely across the full royal blue ground. White peonies anchor the composition at the base; above them, pink and pale purple cherry blossoms scatter freely toward the scalloped border, suggesting the kind of spontaneous, wind-carried dispersal that appears in classical gongbi flower painting.
The purple tone in the cherry blossoms is subtle — mauve at some angles, pink at others — and it keeps the piece from being simply blue and white. It works well as a companion piece to the Blue Garden fan, and equally well on its own.
