Description
Two varieties of peony share the white silk: warm amber-orange blooms on the left half, deep magenta on the right, separated by a branching line of dark cherry blossom printed in the ink-outline style common to Song dynasty textile patterns. The combination reads as autumn — the season in Chinese painting when chrysanthemums and late peonies overlap at the edge of the garden.
The contrast between the clean white ground and the dense, warm-toned florals gives this fan its graphic quality. It photographs well in flat-lay and holds its own as a decorative object hung or displayed open on a stand.
