Tiger’s eye has been valued as a protective stone across multiple traditions for centuries. In ancient Egypt, carved eye amulets made from chatoyant materials were placed in tombs and burial goods. Roman soldiers reportedly carried tiger’s eye for courage in battle. South African deposits, concentrated in the Northern Cape province, remain among the world’s most important sources of high-quality chatoyant quartz, supplying lapidary workshops that have shaped the stone for generations.
This egg-form stone is cut from metamorphic quartz in which fibrous crocidolite inclusions have been pseudomorphed by silica, a geological process that produces the optical shimmer known as chatoyancy. The ovoid form maximizes the curved surface area, allowing the light bands to move continuously as the pendant turns at the chest. Each stone carries a distinct distribution of color and reflection within the warm amber range.
The pendant measures approximately 30 to 40 millimeters along its longest axis. It is strung on an adjustable cord that positions the stone at collarbone height when worn. Material: tiger’s eye, silicified crocidolite from South Africa. Surface finish: high-gloss machine polish. Weight varies by individual stone.
