Description

A round cork natural rubber meditation mat, the surface firm and finely grained beneath bare feet or folded legs. Cork holds its shape under load and returns cleanly. The round form centers the body without instruction.

Cork has been harvested from Quercus suber bark along the Iberian Peninsula for more than two thousand years, used historically for insulation and floor covering. The pairing with natural rubber emerged from Southeast Asian artisan workshops in Vietnam and Indonesia, where both materials are regionally available. Cork is harvested without felling the tree, the bark regenerating in nine years. Natural rubber is tapped from Hevea brasiliensis, each tree productive for two decades. Together, the two materials form a stable surface without synthetic binders.

The mat measures 60 centimetres in diameter and 4mm in total thickness: 3mm natural rubber base, 1mm bonded cork surface. Weight is approximately 900 grams. The cork layer is compressed and bonded without adhesive or synthetic sealant, the rubber base providing grip on hard floors and wood surfaces. The surface texture is finely grained and slightly raised, with enough friction to hold seated and standing postures without a grip pad. A fabric carry strap is included.
