The material is mined in Madagascar, Brazil, and the high plateaus of South India, where deposits yield the characteristic pale pink translucence that distinguishes quality specimens. The ovoid form is polished to a continuous, seamless finish, removing all tool marks and surface irregularities to produce a stone that responds directly and uniformly to touch. Rose quartz belongs to the macrocrystalline quartz family, registering 7 on the Mohs hardness scale.
