Description
The ovoid form settles into the palm with a satisfying weight, its smooth polished surface shifting between warm rose tones and dark charcoal veins as light moves across the stone.
Rhodonite takes its name from the Greek rhodon, meaning rose, and has been worked by lapidaries for centuries across Russia, Australia, and South America. Craftsmen of Russia’s Ural Mountains carved it into decorative objects as early as the eighteenth century, prizing the stone’s bold colour contrast as much as its workability. It remains a valued cabinet mineral in collections worldwide.
This egg-shaped stone is hand-polished to a high mirror finish that reveals the full depth of rhodonite’s characteristic contrast: a warm pink manganese silicate matrix cut through with black manganese oxide inclusions. As a metamorphic rock, its dense internal structure contributes to the grounded, substantial weight that the egg form makes immediately apparent when held.
The stone measures approximately 4 to 5 centimetres in length and around 3 centimetres across at its widest point. It is presented as a standalone polished stone with no cord or pendant fitting. Material: natural rhodonite, a manganese silicate metamorphic mineral with a hardness of 5.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale.
Each piece is individually sourced and hand-polished, so veining patterns and proportions vary between stones. Rhodonite’s graphic contrast between deep rose and black makes it a striking specimen in any mineral collection.
