Each bead holds a depth of blue that shifts toward violet in shadow, threaded through with flecks of gold that catch even the weakest available light.
Lapis lazuli from the Badakhshan region of northeastern Afghanistan has been mined without interruption for more than six thousand years, supplying material to ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, and the Silk Road trade routes that carried it into Tibet and across Europe. In Tibetan Buddhist practice, the mala of 108 beads is the standard format for mantra recitation and meditation. Lapis is specifically associated with the throat chakra and with practices oriented toward clarity, truth, and communication.
This mala is strung from 108 hand-selected beads of natural, undyed lapis lazuli from Badakhshan. The deep blue of each bead comes from lazurite, and the gold-colored flecks are natural pyrite inclusions — both characteristics of undyed, high-quality stone, distinct from the flat, even color of dyed material. The mala is assembled on durable cord in the traditional format: 108 counting beads, a larger guru bead, and a tassel at the meru position.
Material: natural lapis lazuli, undyed, sourced from Badakhshan, Afghanistan; cord. 108 beads plus guru bead and tassel. Bead diameter and total length are available from the seller on request. Store away from direct sunlight. Clean with a soft, dry cloth; avoid water and chemical products, which can affect both the cord and the surface polish of the stone.
Each mala is assembled by hand and will show the natural color variation of the individual stone. The source deposit has a documented history of continuous use spanning over six millennia.
