Description

Moonstone and sterling silver S925 earrings carry a quality of light that moves with the wearer. The stone’s adularescence, a rolling blue-white glow produced by the mineral’s layered internal structure, shifts with every turn of the head. No two angles show the same surface.

Each earring presents a single natural moonstone cabochon, 8 millimetres in diameter, polished to a smooth dome that maximises the adularescent effect. The setting is S925 sterling silver, an alloy of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper, shaped by hand into a low bezel that frames the stone without obscuring its face. The fitting is a standard post-and-butterfly closure, comfortable for extended wear. Total drop from the lobe is approximately 10 millimetres.

These earrings suit daily wear as well as formal occasions. The post fitting is standard for pierced ears; the bezel setting keeps the stone secure without a prong catching on fabric or hair. The S925 alloy is robust enough to withstand daily handling and does not oxidize rapidly under normal conditions.

Moonstone has been prized by South Asian jewelers for over two thousand years, with the finest specimens traditionally sourced from Sri Lanka and southern India. In Vedic astrology, moonstone is associated with the moon and is considered particularly significant for emotional balance and intuition. Its Sanskrit name, chandrakanta, translates as beloved of the moon. This piece carries that lineage in a contemporary earring form.

Will S925 sterling silver tarnish? Sterling silver oxidizes slowly with exposure to air and skin, developing a patina over time. This is natural and reversible: a soft cloth or silver polishing cloth restores the original surface in minutes. Avoid prolonged contact with chlorine, perfume, and salt water to extend the finish.
