Description

The hand-braided Tibetan protection bracelet combines waxed cord braiding with engraved solid copper beads, constructed by artisans working in the Himalayan tradition where cord and metal have been worked together for centuries. Adjustable via a sliding knot, it is built for daily wear and carries iconographic motifs from Vajrayana Buddhist practice.

The bracelet is constructed from waxed cord in a flat, multi-strand braid that sits flush against the wrist without twisting. Solid copper beads are threaded at regular intervals through the braid, each noticeably weighty for its size. The engraving on the copper beads follows patterns drawn from the eight auspicious symbols of Tibetan Buddhism, including the endless knot and the dharma wheel, pressed into the copper with hand tools. The variation visible between beads is a mark of hand work, not a production inconsistency. The sliding knot closure fits wrists from approximately 18 to 28 cm. Cord colors may vary slightly between production batches.

Wear the bracelet on either wrist. The sliding knot allows adjustment in a single motion without removing the bracelet. It is designed for sustained daily contact: the copper develops a natural patina through handling, and the waxed cord softens and conforms to the wrist over weeks of wear. The bracelet can be worn alone or stacked with other bracelets. Remove it before swimming or bathing, as sustained water exposure will dry the cord and may accelerate copper oxidation.

Copper has been used in Tibetan ritual objects for more than a thousand years, associated in Vajrayana Buddhist practice with purification and the removal of obstacles. Protection bracelets are traditionally knotted by skilled artisans, with each knot placed with deliberate attention. The engraving patterns on this piece reference the eight auspicious symbols, a set of iconographic emblems that appear across Tibetan Buddhist art, architecture, and textile, each encoding a specific quality or blessing.

Does the copper in this bracelet cause skin discoloration? Copper contact with skin can produce a temporary green or gray tint on the skin, which is harmless and washes off easily with soap and water. This is a characteristic of copper rather than a defect. Many wearers in the Tibetan tradition consider the reaction evidence of the metal’s contact with the body. If skin sensitivity is a concern, copper bracelets are typically worn on clothing-covered wrists or alternated with non-copper pieces.
