Description
The Golden Phra Chinnaraj Buddha Amulet is a gold-tone cast metal amulet depicting the revered Phra Chinnaraj Buddha in the bhumisparsha mudra, the earth-touching gesture of enlightenment, drawn directly from Sukhothai period iconography of fifteenth-century Thailand. Measuring approximately 2.5 cm by 1.5 cm, it is worn as a protective talisman or collected as a piece of Thai devotional art.
The amulet is cast in gold-tone metal and hand-finished to bring out the detail of the seated figure, the distinctive flame halo (prabhamandala) that is the signature of the Phra Chinnaraj image, and the sacred Khom script on the reverse face. A soldered bail is integrated into the top of the piece, ready to accept a cord or chain. The compact dimensions and light weight make it unobtrusive for daily wear.
Thread the amulet onto a gold-tone chain, a cotton cord, or a traditional Thai takrut cord and wear it at the chest. In Thai Buddhist practice, amulets of this type are blessed before sale and worn continuously; removing them at night and resting them on a clean surface or in a small tray is considered respectful. The piece can also be displayed in a small shadow box or amulet case.
Phra Chinnaraj is regarded as one of the most beautiful and spiritually potent Buddha images in Thailand. The original image, housed at Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat in Phitsanulok, was cast during the Sukhothai period in the fifteenth century and became a national pilgrimage destination. Amulets replicating its form have been produced for centuries as vehicles of protection and spiritual merit for the wearer.
Is the gold tone durable or will it wear off quickly? The hand-finished surface is lacquer-sealed after production, which protects the metal tone from perspiration and normal contact wear; with average daily use the finish remains stable for years. Avoid prolonged immersion in water or contact with harsh cleaning agents.
