The mala is a string of counting beads used in Hindu and Buddhist devotional practice, traditionally comprising 108 beads, a number held to be significant across multiple South and East Asian traditions and appearing in astronomical calculations, sacred texts, and ritual contexts. This necklace pairs amethyst and rose quartz, two stones that occupy complementary positions in crystal traditions: amethyst, associated with the crown and third-eye chakras, is regarded as calming and clarifying; rose quartz, linked to the heart chakra, is associated with openness and compassion.
The mala consists of 108 beads in alternating natural amethyst and rose quartz, separated by smaller spacer beads and strung on a knotted cord. The amethyst beads are a deep violet; the rose quartz ranges from pale to medium pink. The strand terminates in a tassel or pendant marker bead. Both stones are natural and will show variation in color and texture between individual pieces.
